You are You

Why do we not live for ourselves

As I get older and start having to choose between what I want for my life and what others want for my life, I have started to realize that at the end of the day, my choice is the only thing that matters. Our parents decide to put their past faults and their childhood expectations on us because they want the ability to try again but that time has gone. Realistically , you have to live for yourself. I know that it is harder to do than say but I want to explain the reason why it is so important to do it early on.

Imagine this, you in your 20's to early 30's not going on that cruise because your mother wanted you to stay home and be with her watching oldies all weekend. On that cruise was the CEO of some major company that you have been trying to connect with and now you have missed it because of something so small. Yeah, your mom is happy but how does that moment enhance your future. That one moment that she may have cried could be changed by the one moment of you giving her or yourself an easier life. This is just one scenario.

Another could be the difference between you meeting the love of your life or maybe something more daunting like getting out of whatever is ailing you. Our parents are always going to be biased with their love, wants, and needs because we came from them. They can't see you as a grown man/women. They can only see you as the little thing that was held so close to their heart at birth. The harder decisions aren't really the ones they let you make but the ones you allow yourself to make.

I say this to say, be courageous. Take risk. It is your life, not theirs. Victory loves Preparation is a line from one of my favorite moves meaning that when you prepare to move forward, you will win but I also think victory loves opportunity. When you go out and take that chance, you may realize it was the best decision for you. Your true family will love you regardless and be there if you fall so don't be afraid to venture off.
